July in Michigans Upper Peninsula

We are still floating

We are having an incredible time floating the rivers and streams in Michigan's Upper Peninsula! The abundant rainfall we have experienced has been a blessing, allowing us to continue enjoying our outdoor adventures even into this part of the year. It's fascinating to see how healthy the river systems are and how the increased water levels are benefiting both the fish and overall water conditions.

Our encounter with the trout feeding in the grass due to the high water levels is truly remarkable. Observing large brown and rainbow trout actively feeding in such shallow water and targeting flies like dragons, damsels, and dobbins flies is a rare and exciting experience. It is quite a sight to see them respond so eagerly to our flies, especially in areas that are usually dry footpaths.

It's also been great to chuck streamers as the bite has been fantastic with patterns like DNDs, Circus peanuts, zoo cougars, and triple-doubles. These larger flies, paired with sinking lines, seem to be enticing the trout effectively under these conditions.

For anyone interested in enjoying a beautiful float trip or who may have postponed trips due to low water in the past, now is the perfect opportunity to take advantage of these exceptional summer flows. We are having an unforgettable season on the water—enjoy every moment of it!
