The leaves are not the only colors changing in the U.P.! For anyone who is familiar with Michigan's Upper Peninsula you know that we are the last in the state to see spring and the first to see fall/winter and with the changing of the seasons so our fly fishing tactics change.
We are leaving the warm bug filled nights for less daylight and cooler temps. We are preparing for the end of bountiful dry fly hatches and fly fishing UP smallmouth on top-water bugs preparing for a what we hope is a good trout streamer fly fishing season as well as preparing for the fall runs of kings, lake run browns and steelhead!
As we go into the fall its a great time to get out on the trout stream and rip some big streamer such as zoo cougars, D&Ds and the like for trout or if the lake run fish have started their annual migration its an awesome time to swing a big fly to these fresh fish(should be heating up in about 2 weeks) or break out the nymph set up and nymph up a big bullet.
Anyway you look at it there is still a ton going on and you better get it while you can because snow and below zero temps are not to far off!!!
